The Monolith

One of my favorite movies is Stanley Kubrick's 2001:A Space Odyssey.  I was awestruck the first time I got to see it on VHS particularly because it made me wonder if the effects in the movie were real. Aside from that, 2001 had a very profound plot, which made me question the purpose and existence of everything and us human beings, especially. I decided to create a MOC to honor one of Kubrick's masterpieces. Actually, this build has been bugging me for weeks and fortunately, I finally had the time to work on it.

This MOC was inspired by the movie's prologue, which proposes an alternative theory to the dawn of man. The beginning of the film suggests that a towering monolith contributed to the development of humans from simple primates into complex intelligent beings. Ultimately, it is revealed that the black brick is an extraterrestrial machine created by a progenitor race and is designed to help in the evolution of simple life forms scattered across the universe.

Initially, I thought this build was going to be a walk in the park. Apparently, I was wrong. I had a hard time working on the terrain. Also, due to the limited amount of black bricks in my stash, the monolith wasn't as smooth as I expected. Still, I'm kinda happy with how this build turned out.

If you haven't  seen 2001:A  Space Odyssey, I suggest you do so as soon as you can. It's really a mind-blowing and thought-provoking experience that leaves you wanting for more.

That's it for now, folks! Enjoy the Labor Day weekend. Till next post!
