How's it going, folks?! It's been a while since I last posted something here on the blog. A lot's been going on with me for the past couple of months that's why I wasn't able to write new entries recently.
The family and I have been going on fun trips in and out of the city to make the most out of the remaining weeks of the kids' break. I also had to attend a couple of occasions hosted by amazing friends which kept me fully booked for a couple of weekends. Also, my band Manaha had a gig recently after a long hiatus which also ate some of my time. Last but not the least, there were several new projects at work which kept me on my toes and made me just want to lie down on the bed every time I come home. Anyway, it seems things have gone back to normal and now, I have time again to blog. By the way, I have been putting up some neat stuff at Nothing But Brick's Instagram account while I took a break from blogging so make sure to check them out. Here's the link: https://www.instagram.com/nothingbutbrick/ On with the show!
Summer vacation's about to end and it's a real bummer. Let's end the season with a bang by going to the ultimate Lego convention this summer, Abrickadabra 2017! Hosted by PhLUG, Abrickadabra 2017 will showcase hundreds of MOCs built by the group's skilled builders. Lego creations from various themes ranging from city, medieval, fantasy, space and vehicles will be on display at the event and would surely entertain both kids and kids at heart. There's also some neat stuff in store for Star Wars, DC and Marvel fans so watch out for that! Aside from the awesome displays, the sellers of the PhLUG Brick Stores will be setting up shop. It's the best opportunity to land amazing deals on bricks and figs.
This will be my third Abrickadabra so allow me to give you several tips on how to enjoy the event fully. While you're at it, check out the pics from last year's Abrickadabra.
Be the early bird
Arrive early! Doors open at 10am. During this time, there's not much people yet so you can look around and take pictures of the exhibits in peace. Things get crazy in the afternoon and you're going to have lots of photo bombers in your shots by then. Also, you wouldn't be able to enjoy yourself at the event if you're rushing so get to the Promenade Hall as early as you can. Why? Read on to find out!
Bask in the ambience, my friend!
Take your time to look at and appreciate the MOCs that will be displayed. If you rush, it's very likely you'll miss out on some of the small details hidden in each of the displays. Believe me, there are a lot of fun stuff in these MOCs which makes looking at them longer really worth it. By the way, take a picture or two. Actually, take lots of them and post them in your social media accounts. These guys and gals spent a lot of time and effort preparing the displays and this little gesture is the best way to show them how we appreciate their work. Don't forget the hashtag!
Show me the money!
Since this is a Lego convention, you're bound to see several bricks and figs at the PhLUG Brick Stores that will tickle your fancy. These sellers have lots of cool stuff at affordable prices so you better make sure you have enough cash to shop till you drop. You don't want to regret not getting that wicked Darth Vader minifig, right?!
Mingle!
That's right, folks! Talk to the exhibitors, sellers and other peeps at the event. They don't bite! Seriously, they're more than happy to discuss the hobby with inquisitive folk. You can learn a lot about Lego from them. If you're really interested to start collecting and building, now's your chance to get a pointer or two. Also, try to join the activities at the event if you can. It's guaranteed to be fun!
Abrickadabra is one of the local Lego events I look forward to every year. If you're a brickhead like me, then I'm sure you'll have one heck of a time there. So, save the date, folks and see you there!
